Q: What is Vemail?
A: Vemail is voice-enabled email for mobile phones that lets users retrieve, read, type, and SPEAK email messages. Vemail was designed specifically for mobile professionals and consumers who want the productivity gains and convenience associated with mobile access to email without carrying an extra device or typing messages on a miniature keyboard. It is estimated that most people can speak a message 20 times faster than they can type on a mobile phone keypad, even with predictive text entry. You can download Vemail software over the air straight into your phone from select wireless carriers. For more information see www.vemail.com.

Q: What is supposed to happen when I click on the link in the email I received?
A: If the message you received was sent with normal security then your browser should open and play the voice message as a sound file. If the message was sent with higher security then you will need to sign in with your Vemail User/Account Number and PIN. If this is your first time and you don't have a Vemail User/Account Number and PIN then click Register. In either case, if the message sender specified an Avatron, you will also see a three dimensional avatar while you are listening to the message.

Q: What is supposed to happen when I click on a link in a blog I visited?
A: Your browser should automatically open and play the audio voice blog. If the blogger specified an Avatron, you will also see a three dimensional avatar while you are listening to the message.

Q: What User/Account Number and PIN do I need to input to get my message?
A: Some Vemail messages are sent in a secure mode that requires the recipient to create a Vemail User/Account Number and PIN. Click on the Register link to do this. Vemail User/Account Numbers must be 7-20 digit numbers. We suggest you use your mobile phone number because it is easy to remember (no parenthesis, dashes, hyphens, or spaces please). Your PIN needs to be a 4-20 digit number.

Q: Why does my User/Account Number and PIN need to be all numbers?
A: Numeric User/Account Numbers and PINs are much easier to use for certain types of Vemail interfaces, such as a voice interface you access by making a phone call.

Q: What is supposed to happen after I type my Vemail User/Account Number and PIN into my computer?
A: Your browser should play the voice message recorded by the message sender. Your browser should open the program on your computer that can play WAV format audio files. The audio should play automatically, and you should hear the message that was sent to you. (WAV is the most commonly supported audio format for desktop and laptop computers). If you are using a handheld computer or other mobile email device you may receive a different file type more suited to your device.

Q: What should I do if the message appears to be playing but I can't hear anything?
A: Try turning up your speaker volume.

Q: What can I do if my browser does not play the multimedia portion of the Vemail message?
A: On Windows using Internet Explorer, a high security setting will prevent Vemails from playing directly in the browser. In IE, please follow these steps to enable Vemails to play:
  1. Select Tools from the IE menu
  2. Select Internet Options...
  3. Go to the Secuirty tab
  4. Make sure Internet is selected (should be by default)
  5. Click on Custom Level...
  6. Under ActiveX controls and plug-ins, enable Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins
  7. Save your changes
Alternately, you can always download the Vemail content and play it manually from your multimedia software. Select the Download WAV or the Download MP3 link and save the Vemail to your Desktop as an audio WAV or MP3 file. A new file should now appear on your desktop. You can either double click it to play the Vemail, or open a program like Windows Media Player (on Windows) or QuickTime (on Macs) to play it.

Q: What can I do if my browser crashes when trying to play the multimedia portion of the Vemail message?
A: On Windows XP SP 2, using the Internet Explorer browser and QuickTime, you may see a window that prompts you to "Click to run an ActiveX control on this webpage." When you click on the OK button, the browser crashes.

This is a known, though uncommon, problem with QuickTime 7.0 on Windows XP SP 2. To resolve the problem, please update your QuickTime to the latest version (http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/).

Q: Vemail Avatron messages won't play in my Windows PC using Apple's QuickTime Player.
A: QuickTime does not contain the necessary software to play back Avatron content on Windows computers. However, you can download the Avatron message and play it with Windows Media Player. Alternately, you can obtain MPEG support for QuickTime.

Avatron messages on the web will play on Apple computers using QuickTime.

Q: Can I use the same Vemail User/Account Number and PIN to receive Vemail at multiple email addresses?
A: At the present time Vemail message recipients must create a separate Vemail User/Account Number for each email address at which you receive Vemail. However, if you download Vemail software to your mobile phone and become a Vemail customer, then you can associate multiple email addresses with one Vemail User/Account Number. To find out how see: www.vemail.com.
